Winston Churchill surely wasn't eye candy?!
Most of us are aware of the famous anecdote quoting an exchange of words that is said to have taken place between Winston Churchill and either the controversial American born House of Commons MP, Lady Astor, or another lady politician of that time, Bessie Braddock. For those who are not in the know, the tiff between the renouned British Prime Minister and one of these ladies is quoted as follows:
People such as British researcher George Thayer have since dismissed this story as untrue.
I am inclined to believe this because of one simple fact. Churchill, with his bulldog-like mug, was not exactly eye candy. Him having the guts to call anyone ugly (even if just for the sake of a low blow) would have been the most ironic case of the pot calling the kettle black. Imagine the beast in Beauty and the Beast turning around to call Beauty a beast! The mind boggles!
